2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Takes its Autonomous Driving Technology to the Limit

Mercedes-Benz is not pulling any punches when it officially unveiled its tenth generation E-Class early this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has long been known for its technologically-advanced vehicles.

It seems that the company has outdone itself with the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class as the mid-size four-door sedan actually pushes the boundaries of its autonomous driving technology and complementing it with the stylings of its big brother sedan, the S-Class, notes The Car Connection.

The architecture of the E-Class has been fully revamped with a larger body style that shares the signatures of both the S-Class and the C-Class.

However, it has unique technological features that make it the most intelligent sedan from the lineup of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury cars.

Mercedes-Benz is actually proud of its work because it has outdone itself in integrating its autonomous driving as well as safety and infotainment hardware in the new E-Class than it did in the more sensuous and stalwart S-Class.

A classic handsome look

Because of its unique styling, the 2017 E-Class actually exudes a balanced and classic handsome look with its long hood and short trunk lid profile that lays out over a longer wheelbase, giving it a more relaxed aura than the compact C-Class.

The navigation and infotainment display features a 12.3-inch high-resolution screen that caps a center stack that houses thin rows of climate-control switches.

The mid-size sedan also adopts touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel that offer swipe-and-tap control in place of the clicking switches.

Most important models

The E-Class is actually regarded as the most important models in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, with over 13 million units sold worldwide since the brand was introduced back in 1993.

Thus, the pressure is on the German automaker to make sure that the 2017 E-Class maintains its tradition of selling well in the market, cites the Robb Report.

Gordon Wagener, chief designer of Mercedes-Benz, in a recent interview, said that the company’s design philosophy on its vehicles is hot and cool. When he said hot, it means that the cars would make people fall in love with it. When he said cool, it means that it should possess the latest technology in the market.

True enough, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is really high on technology. In fact, it is the first among the German automaker’s production cars to employ features taken from some of its recent concept cars.

The car’s Drive Pilot seems to be excellent which makes some people think that their driving days will soon be over. Thus, the battle among luxury cars is on other attributes including design, quality, and comfort, where the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class happen to deliver remarkably well too.

As what the previous reports have said, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class indeed got a visual design that is far more dynamic than its predecessor.

However, instead of the usual model that has been previously described on the internet, Mercedes-Benz rolled out a different and rather new 2017 E-Class variant at the Detroit auto show.

Instead of the previously-reported engine variant of the luxury sedan, Mercedes-Benz launched a 2017 E-Class that features a four-cylinder gasoline engine for the first time.

During the North American International Auto Show, it was revealed by officials of the Mercedes-Benz that the 2017 E-Class will be available in the US with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can exude 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque complemented by a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission, which shall only be made available upon official launch.

It would be the first gasoline four-cylinder engine in the E-Class in the states while the outgoing generation currently has a 4-pot diesel option.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class borrows the exterior aesthetics of the S-Class, the way that the C-Class also did. It also put emphasis on the interior material quality, making it actually two-thirds of an S-Class.

It also features a similarly-shaped grille and headlights in front. The trunk and taillights of the E-Class are similar to the S-Class as well.
