Facebook Messenger may soon introduce Snapchat-like disappearing messages

Facebook Messenger may soon introduce Snapchat-like disappearing messages: ReportFacebook Messenger may soon offer users, a similar feature or functionality of Snapchat, which would be their signature ‘disappearing messages’. As per a screenshot shared by Twitter user iOSAppChanges, the new Messenger update for iOS 68.0 version was spotted with “disappearing messages” inside a chat window.
Messenger says in the chat window, “You turned on disappearing messages. New messages will disappear from this conversation 15 minutes after being sent.” Another screenshot revealed that the message would have different slots for it to disappearing – a minute, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day and never.
This isn’t the first time that Facebook is planning to take on Snapchat as we’ve already seen the failed attempt at building Slingshot. Late last year, Facebook had announced to shutter down its Creative Labs division that is responsible for apps such as SlingshotRiff and Rooms. Moreover, the company has also pulled out all three apps from the Play Store.
Slingshot allowed users to sign up for the service with their mobile phone number and connect with friends in their phone’s contact list or, if they want, by finding their Facebook friends. Photos on Slingshot disappeared from users’ phones shortly after they are viewed, reflecting a growing anxiety about privacy in the age of Internet social networking.
