Android Nougat finally revealed – here's how to get it on your smartphone

GOOGLE announces the name of its new operating system and there's plenty of sweet features coming your way.

COMING SOON: Android Nougat has now been officially unveiled by Google
Android owners are about to get a major update to their smartphones.
Google's new operating systems has finally been given its official sugary name and Nougat will soon be replacing last year's Marshmallow.
Among the new features coming to Android devices are better battery life and power performance, thanks to the new Doze feature which is able to put your device into a low-power mode when it detects the phone isn't moving.

Android phones will also get support for split-screen apps.
This will allow applications to run side by side or one above the other, much like Apple's existing iOS feature.
Better support for virtual reality games and apps is also included and a new night mode which will cut down on harmful light when using your phone late at night.
Another neat feature in Android N is the new Direct Reply option which lets users quickly respond to text messages or update task lists directly within the notification interface.

When can I get Android Nougat?
Google will now begin rolling out the new software later this year, with the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones likely to be the first devices to benefit.
Other companies will then start rolling out Android Nougat to users, with the likes of Samsung, HTC and LG set to update users by the end of the year, or early 2017 at the latest.
