In June 2014 ALABI, Oyedeji Sodiq sent an application letter in form of a proposal to an organisation that was not recruiting for any position at that time. The head of the organisation read the proposal/application, forwarded it to the organisation's communication consultant for advice and within two weeks he got himself an offer from the consultant's company with 50% pay rise.
The letter he sent  is reproduced below:
Why the Council Needs a New Media Communications Strategy

As the premier organisation representing Nigerian Muslims and Muslim interests, the Council has been at the fore front of propagating Islamic values and ideals to the public. Your commitment to the promotion of tolerant, accommodating and forward looking understanding of Islam has been underscored by your interventions in the initiation of advocacy projects, books, and encouragement of scholarship. These activities require partnership with diverse stakeholders, including people in the grassroots, youth, other faith based groups, market women, civil societies groups, government institutions and professional bodies, and must therefore be strengthened by a well-articulated and excellently implemented social media communications strategy.

The importance of a social media communications strategy to the work of the Council cannot be overemphasised. An effective communications strategy is a well-planned series of activities aimed at achieving certain objectives especially communicating with your various audiences through the use of well-crafted communications methods. I propose a three-pronged approach; content strategy, social media strategy and new media relations strategy. Efforts will be dedicated to using your website, Facebook and twitter accounts, podcast, and newsletter tools to give the Council the needed presence.
The arguments are already well known; the new media is cheaper, faster and its reach can be wider than the traditional media. What is far more important is that most Muslim youth are easily accessible through this medium. More than half of the Nigerian Muslim population is under the age of 30 and quite technology savvy, and the Council must therefore start to get itself involved in social media and make thorough use of its tools to reach this important bloc of the Ummah and positively engage them.
I am therefore making the case that the Council should as a matter of urgency and pertinent operational policy make the move to adopt a social media communication strategy. As I outline in the accompanying documents, I am hereby applying for the role of New Media Communications Officer. I can develop the strategy discussed above and implement it with distinction. My application letter and resume are attached for your perusal and action.
Yours faithfully,
ALABI, Oyedeji Sodiq
